High Point Furniture Market happens twice a year; once in April for Spring Market and once in October for Fall Market.  No matter when you go, it is always filled with inspiration and wonderful connections.

Here are some big trends and happenings I gleaned from my recent trip to Spring Market.

Wood finishes – I am happy to report some warmer tones are making their way back to the scene. I saw a lot of light, more natural blonde wood finishes and deeper darker browns as well.

Color trends – Muted earth tones that feel light and peaceful were everywhere! I also saw dark, dramatic color schemes with black as the hero. The blues remain a big accent color, with green making more of an appearance, along with an occasional pop of red.

Texture – Texture was everywhere in fabrics and casegoods. The use of cane, wicker and other natural materials were definitely on display, along with grass cloth and linen textures mixed with painted or wood stain pieces. Fuzzy, plush, nubby, or just textured fabrics in general, were popular in every showroom.

Surprises

  • I was pleasantly surprised that almost every vendor seemed to have launched an outdoor line. There is a demand for outdoor living and the vendors are responding.
  • There were some upholstery details that were fun and unusual like this decorative zipper on the back of this barrel chair by Temple, along with other interesting details.
  • The use of cork in upholstery and casegoods was an unexpected surprise too!

The in-person connections we make at Market are just as important as the products we find. I love meeting up TDC Members from all over North America at HPMKT!  It strengthens our community with each other and it’s enjoyable to put a face to a name.
